Opened in 2010, Aylesbury Waterside Theatre gives us the chance to experience West End productions, comedy, dance, children’s theatre and more, without leaving the town The landmark building was modelled around the undulating Chiltern Hills, and it looks even more beautiful at night with the suspended lights shining out through the glass panels at the front of the building (although we’ll have to ask them about their energy use for all of those light bulbs…). In the past they have run theatre groups for children, and the space can be used for meetings and local events. The café is open during the day, and in the evenings on performance nights.

Buckinghamshire Culture has emerged in response to a need to better connect, celebrate and enhance the creative and cultural organisations in Buckinghamshire and the great work that they do.
In 2018, spearheaded by Bucks County Council, they collectively started work on a Cultural Strategy for the county, which outlined the need for a new cultural partnership to take this work forward. Their partnership is made up of representatives from creative and cultural organisations, higher and further education, schools, economy and growth, place-making and health and wellbeing alongside artists and museum professionals.
They aim to:
- Increase opportunities for arts and cultural experiences and participation for everyone
- Connect and build the creative and cultural sector, developing partnerships and joint working
- Attract investment and funding for joint projects
- Build capacity and enhance sustainability for the sector
- Raise the profile of creativity and culture in Buckinghamshire and its relevance to our daily lives
- Ensure creativity and culture enhance the quality of all our places

A sustainably run visitor attraction and venue that’s located in beautiful open countryside where there’s plenty of space to explore. Most of the farm is laid out to paddocks for rare breed farm animals and includes our Animal Barn and Pets’ Corner where visitors can meet the animals at close quarters.
The site includes a nature trail, outdoor and indoor children’s play areas, restaurant (supplied by local producers and from their own walled garden and orchard, where they grow heritage fruit and vegetables). A purpose built events room is also available for private and corporate hire.
They aim to promote sustainable living, and showcase this through their own renewable energy systems (biomass heating system and solar panels), waste management (rainwater harvesting to supply water for flushing toilets, composting, aquaponics), sustainable agricultural practices and supporting and supplying local businesses.

They collect clean recyclable waste material from local companies and take it to their Scrapstore where it is soon put to use by a local playgroup, school, community group, or any other Milton Keynes Play Association member. They always have a wide range of materials available for members to use for play, art and craft activities, den building, or design and technology projects. They can find a use for most things, as long as they’re clean and non-toxic.
And OK, definitely not in Aylesbury, but had to be included because of the amazing work in reducing waste, and local enough for Aylesbury-based businesses to collaborate with them.
They have an online shop open for members and non-members, but items need to be collected from them in Milton Keynes.

Usually providing play sessions in South Buckinghamshire, during the lockdown they have launched a brilliant new service: the hire of mini play kits for children. These are small role play areas – the perfect size for your home – including a construction site, vets, baby nursery, supermarket and more. Rather than buying a lot of new toys you can hire a kit for a weekend or a week, saving money, space, and being more sustainable at the same time! Lucy delivers to the Aylesbury area, and provides a wonderful and friendly service.
