Started by Richard and his then 14-year-old daughter in 2019 after noticing how much litter there was around Aylesbury.  They decided to take action and get out there with their litter pickers. They hold regular litter picks around the town for anyone to come along and join in, and lend out equipment for anyone who wants to go on their own litter pick.

“It’s not our rubbish but it is our town”

Biographical Info

They collect clean recyclable waste material from local companies and take it to their Scrapstore where it is soon put to use by a local playgroup, school, community group, or any other Milton Keynes Play Association member.  They always have a wide range of materials available for members to use for play, art and craft activities, den building, or design and technology projects.  They can find a use for most things, as long as they’re clean and non-toxic.

And OK, definitely not in Aylesbury, but had to be included because of the amazing work in reducing waste, and local enough for Aylesbury-based businesses to collaborate with them.

They have an online shop open for members and non-members, but items need to be collected from them in Milton Keynes.

Upcycle Arcade hand source every piece of furniture and bring it back to their workshop where they fix it, strip it, sand it, then paint and polish it using techniques gleaned from research and experience as well as learning from their own hiccups. Imagination and courage with their approach means each piece has individuality pushed just outside the comfort zone. The end result is high quality exclusive furniture that retains much of its original character.

Kirsty also writes a blog about furniture upcycling as well as anything related to sustainability and eco-friendly living which pops into her head!

Wild Daisy creates new designs from old clothing. Sustainability and looking after the earth is the core of the business. My focus is on reducing waste in the fashion industry, mostly the end-of-life wastage, to which there is no shortage. All of my fabric is recycled and my patchwork methods utilise every inch of fabric so zero waste is produced. Each design is entirely unique but a wardrobe essential that can be worn in a million different ways.
